HAWERA.
[By Telegraph.]
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Hawera, September 2. A man named Squire, known as “ Big Harry,” was sent to the asylum as a lunatic to-day. Election matters are quiet here at present, so far as speechifying and addresses go ; but, as Major Atkinson is expected in Hawera this evening, things will take a more lively turn in a few days. Sir Robert Stout has declined the honor of addressing the electors of Egmont at Hawera, owing to want of time and having so many engagements in Otago. Nothing further is known whether Sir George Grey will deliver an address here, as desired, or not.
