MR GOSCHEN DEFEATED.

The election to fill the vacancy its the representation of the Exchange Division of Liverpool in the House of Commons, necessitated by the death of the late senior member, Mr David Duncan, Home Euler, took place today, and resulted in the return of Mr Neville, a Liberal, by a majority of 11 votes over his opponent, Mr Goschen, the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The respective totals polled are stated to be 3222 and 3211, but the ballotpapers will be re-counted to-morrow, prior to the final declaration of the poll. January 27. The re-count of the ballot papers in the Liverpool election made no change in the totals polled, and Mr Neville has been declared dulyelected. (special to united press .association.) London, January 30. It is reported that Mr Goschen will petition against the return of Mr Neville on the grounds of personation and undue influence.
