TWO MINING ACCIDENTS.

(united press association.) Hokitika, December 10. Two mining accidents, which almost miraculously escaped being . attended with fatal results, occurred at Rimu. A man named John Vincent was sinking a shaft from which a huge boulder was being drawn. When the stone was a foot from the surface, the windlass broke and fell with the boulder down the shaft. No escape was possible. The boulder was jammed in the shaft during its descent. The windlass fell on the man, but did not seriously injure him. He was able to walk home after being extricated. In the other case a large piece of rock fell on a man named James Perry, in a drive, doing him great injury. He was immediately conveyed to the hospital.
