DEATH OF AN ITALIAN STATESMAN

The death is announced of Signor Marco Minghetti, the Italian statesman and diplomatist.
[Siguor Minghetti was born at Bologna in ISIS. At the beginning of the pontificate of Pius IX., when hia Holiness desired to introduce liberal reforms in the administration of the Papal States, Signor Minghetti. entered the lay Ministry as Minister of Public Works, On the change of policy announced by the Encyclical of April 29, 1848, he entered the military service of the King of Sardinia, and made the campaign of IS4S. After the peace of Milan he left the army. He was a great friend of Count 1 Cavour, and held office under him after the formation, of the Italian Kingdom. Since then he has held various high offices, and was Prime Minister from , July 10, 1873. to March 19, 1876. Previously he had been for some time Ambassador in London. Signor Minghetti was the author of several works on political subjects.]
