FIRES IN CANTERBURY

(dnited press association.) Christchurch, November 30. About 10 o’clock to-night a fire occurred in Pratt’s buildings, Colombo-street. A shop occupied by Mesdames Hill and Williams, dressmakers, was gutted. Their stock was insured for £2OO in the Standard office. The stock in the adjoining shop, occupied by Messrs Mills, tailor, and Lawrence Bros., shoemakers, was injured by water. Mr Mills’ stock was insured for £SOO in the Colonial office, and Mr Lawrence for £l5O in Liverpool and London and Globe. Mr Taylor’s grocery stock, next to Mr Mills’, was damaged by water, and was insured for £650 in the Guardian office. The fire is sup-, posed to have been accidental. Christchurch, December 1. | This morning a saddler’s shop at Lincoln, belonging to Mr J. F. Finn, was burned down. It was insured for £250 in the Phcenix office. The cause of the fire is unknown. On Saturday evening a seven-roomed house at Springston, belonging to Mrs Mary Elizabeth Smith, was destroyed by fire. It was insured for £275 in the Royal office. The furniture, which was destroyed, was insured for £2OO in the Equitable.
