SEVERE EARTHQUAKE.

The sharpest earthquake shook felt in Wellington for a longtime took place at 13 minutes to 1 o’clock last Friday morning., It seemed to travel from east to west. The shake began with considerable violence, and lasted forseveral seconds. Immediately afterward there seemed to be a sharp final jerk.

A severe shock of earthquake was' felfchere this morning at 10 minutes to 1, *iccom--panied by a muffled rumbling noise. There was a tremendous upward jerk, followed by a violent vibration of the earth, apparently from east to west and vice versa, lasting about thirty seconds.
