DEATH OF MR THOS. WATSON.

® (united press association.) Invercargill, November 8. News has been received of the death in Melbourne of Mr T. Watson, who was manager for about a quarter of a century of the Invercargill Branch of the Bank of New Zealand. The deceased gentleman was a few months ago appointed to Melbourne, and recently left to fill that position. [The news of the death of Mr Thomas Watson will be received with the sincerest regret, not only by those in the employment of the Bank of New Zealand, but by all who have known him. He entered-the service of the Bank as manager at Invercargill when he was a very young man, and occupied the same position for about 25 years. The Directors of the Bank always had the most complete confidence in his ability and uprightness, and with good reason. A more thoroughly straightforward man never lived, and through times of great difficulty ho steered clear of troubles which very few men could have avoided. Several times more important positious iu the Bank than that which he held in Invercargill were offered to him, and it is no secret that the Directors asked him more than once to become manager in Wellington. He, however, refused all such offers until he was all but ordered to become manager of the Melbourne branch. Not many months ago he left for Melbourne, and his family only quite recently followed him. Of the cause of his death we have no information. The news will be received in this Colony with the sincerest mourning, and those who knew him best will regret him most.]
