THE MISSING MAN LEVY.
There appears to be little doubt now that Mr A. L. Levy went to Sydney in the Hauroto on the day he was first missed from home. In addition to the testimony of those who recognised him on board from his photograph, we now learn that he was seen in Sydney after the vessel’s arrival, and that a parcel bearing his name was carried in the way of business by the Sydney Metropolitan Transfer Company, He is believed by the Sydney police authorities to have gone to Melbourne from the former place. Constable Walker, who last week returned from a quest after Levy in Sydney, says he ha 3 ascertained that the Sydney police are in possession of an anonymous letter sent to them from Newcastle, New South Wales, in which they are informed that Mr Levy was a passenger by the Hauroto on her last voyage from Wellington to Sydney, but had no idea how he got on board ; that the purser of the vessel could nob give him any information on the point ; that be was in a dazed condition for three or four days after leaving Wellington having evidently been drugged ; that after being in Sydney for some days he left for Melbourne ; that he had written to bis wife from Australia ; and that as soon as he was in possession of sufficient funds he would return to Wellington. From the inquires which Constable Walker has made he is satisfied that Mr Levy was a passenger by the Hauroto. A parcel with that gentleman’s name upon it was seen it board by a person who travelled by the vessel on the trip in question, and a man resembling Mr Levy is believed to have been about Sydney for some days after the steamer arrived there.
