Business continues very quiet, there being no large transactions to report, and prices of most articles of commerce remaining stationary. The only foreign vessel arriving during the last weeks has been the barquentine Eleanor Vernon from New York via Port Chalmers, with a cargo chiefly of kerosene. The barquentine May from Bundaberg, Queensland, with a cargo of sugar. There has been an ordinary demand for wine, beer, and spirits, without change of prices. The Queensland sugar for crystals is quoted at from L 25 10s to L 27, according to quality, China A sugar is quoted at from L26to L 27 per ton. We have it on good authority that the agency for the China sugar has been accepted by Messrs W. and G. Turnbull and Co. In addition of the kerosene by the Eleanor Vernon to what was already in the market, leaves stocks rather heavy. The quotations are, for No. 130 test, lOd; No. 150, Is to Is Id. The same vessel brought a considerable quantity of tinned lobsters. Eureka brand is selling at from 9s 3d to 9s 6d. There are no changes to quote iu the value of Colonial produce. Flour is quoted according to brand at from, Lll to Ll 3 per ton. Considerable sales have been made within the last few days at Timaru.
