Professor Thomas, with Luudins as guide, succeeded in getting to tbe lip of the crater at the bottom of Tarawera Mountain. He states that the crater in Botomahana is much more extensive than formerly. In crossing ever the fissures quantities of steam and the effusion of oxide of iron and other minerals i m pi-f.fr ns ted the air to such au extent as nearly'’ to stifle them. Professor Thomas describes the craters and geysers up to near Okaro Lake as in full operation, and grand in the extreme. He intends making a second journey. ___________
