The residence of the Rev E. E. Chambers, at Dampier Bay, Lyttelton, was destroyed by fire this afternoon. Toe building is owned by Mrs Rogers, a widow. The occupants were away at the time, and very little furniture was saved. The furniture was iusured for £2OO in the National office. The cause of the fire is unknown.
Dunedin, July 21.
Henry Percy Fisher has been committed for trial on various charges of larceny. For contempt of Court he was sentenced to 14 day’s hard iabor. He told the Bench he would not perform hard labor, but would come before them every week, leading the Magistrate to infer that the gaol authorities might expect a lively time. Captain Kelly, one of the oldest pilots at Otago Heads, died to-day. Auckland, July 21. A decree nisi was granted in the divorce case Broadfoot v. Broadfoot and Lambert. A man named Christian Johnson, settler, at Tauhoa, has been charged with criminal assault on his own daughter, aged II years, and has been committed for trial. A man named Williams was fined 20s for breach of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, by promoting a raffl\ This was the first prosecution of the kind In the Colony.
