CUSTOMS. The Customs duties collected at the port of Wellington for the week ending Saturday, amounted to L 5559 16s 6d. Beer duty, L 73 ss--6d. MARKETS. George Thomas reports produce prices aa follows .-—Flour, in- sacks, is selling at L 9, but favorite brands command 5s higher. Oatmeal is still very firm from Ll 5 to Ll 5 5s per top fowls’ wheat, plentifully supplied from 2s 6d. to 3s per bushel ; oats are coming forvvardslowly from the South at increased rates, and good feed cannot be bought here under 3s 3d to 3s 4d ; maize is very scarce, the New Zealand crop having proved a failure—present rates,. 5s ; fowls’ barley, 2s 6d to 2s Bd, with small sale ; beans, 4s ; peas, 3s 6d. Potatoes re--main quiet, and at last rates; there is nospeculation taking place, buyers contenting themselves by simply purchasing only what isrequired; flukes and kidneys are unsaleable atL 3 10s. Eggs have become rather plentiful,, and, at to-day’s sale, only realised from lOd tolid ; fresh butter (the market being fully supplied) was quitted at 7d; gooseberries, 5d per quart; fowls, 4s 9d; turkeys, 14s per pair;: ducks, 6s. Except apples, the fruit market isentirely bare, but shipments from Sydney are due on Monday. Laery and Campbell report:—During the East week business has been better and firmer, ut there are no large transactions to report. Old potatoes are offering very freely, quotations that would be reliable are quite impossible to make. New potatoes, 814 to Ll 5 per ton. Oats are worth, in wholesale lines, 3s to 3s 2d, and the demand is very limited, the general impression being that they will shortly be lower. Oatmeal remains at last week’s quotations, as does also flour, although great efforts are being made to raise it 5s to 7s 6d per ton. The only onions in the market, and the demand is very limited, are at about 4s 4d ; the same remarks will equally apply to peas at 3s 6d. Chickwheat we quote at 2s 6d to 3s for good samples, and we could not quote milling wheat as. being worth much more here. Barley, for malting, is worth about 3s 6d, for feed purposes 2s 6d, but the sale is very slow. Hops are a drug. Bran and pollard we quote at L - to L 5 ss. Salt butter is without inquiry; fresh butter, Bd, with a slight downward tendency; eggs, lOd to lid; fowls, 4s per pair; ducks, 4s 6d do; turkeys, 7s 6d each ; geese are never very saleable. Horses still continue to be inquired for. LABOR MARKET. Messrs France Brothers report wages for the past week as follows : —Carpenters, 10s ; bricklayers and plasterers, 11s to 13s; painters and glaziers, 9s to 10s ; plumbers and gasfitters, 9s to 12s ; blacksmiths, 9s to 10s ; labor and pick and shovel men, 7s to 9s ; draymen, 42s to 50s ; coachmen, 30s to 355; grooms, 20s to 355; storemen, 35s to 50s; gardeners, 7s to 8s; hotelmen, 20s to 40s ; cooks, 25s to 40s ; female do, 16s to 30s ; housemaids, 12s to 18s ; general servants, 10s to 16s; nursegirls, 5s to 10s ; barmaids, 25s to 30s ; milkmen, 15s to 20s ; farm hands, 15s to 25s ; boys, 5s to 12s; married couples, L7O to LBS. During the past week we have experienced a great demand for domestic servants, none being obtainable from the last direct steamer. All other branches remain at last quotations. SHARE REPORT. Agency Company (per Mr D. Stronach) reports as follows :—312 cattle were yarded, nearly all prime. Best bullocks brought LS 10s to LlO 153 ; cows to LSl7s 6d. Beef, 20s to 22s 6d per lOOlbs. 2250 sheep were penned. Of these 1221 were merino, and the balance crossbreds, the best of which brought 18s 6d to 20s 6d others, 163 to 18s ; merino wethers, 11s 3d to 15s 9d. Mutton, 3d to per lb. 470 lambs were penned, and sold at 0s 6d to 13s 6d each. S 7 Pigs were brought forward, all sizes, and sold at from 19s to 78s each. Christchurch, October 2J. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (per Mr E. G-. Staveley) reports as follows :—At the Addington Market to-day, there was a large supply of fat_ana store sheep, the demand was irregular. Best crossbred wethers in wool brought 21s pa , merino, 14s 6d; shorn wethers, 16s. Quotations unaltered. A small number of cattle was yarded, and there was a moderate demand.
