Timaru (says the looal " Herald''), notwithstanding its splendid water supply, with ever so many thousands of gallons running to waste every day, is, without doubt, one of the filthiest towns in the colony. The "Sydney Trade Review" for September reports that the most important feature of the month has been the floating of the wellknown wool business of Messrs Harrison, Jones, and Devlin into a limited liability company, with a capital of £150,000, with power to increase to £500,000, of which £IOO,OOO will be called up. No publicity was given, to this project through the Press, and the prospectus was issued privately to persons directly or indirectly interested in the business, but it was received so favorably by them that in the space of a fortnight a much larger number of shares were applied for than could be allotted. The object of forming this valuable and rapidlygrowing business into a company is to admit to a participation in the profits a class of shareholders who are willing to, and can indirectly, if not directly, strengthen the enterprise, as well as assist in securing, in the keen competition which may new be anticipated, a fair share of the increasing wool trade of the colony, to which a great impetus has been recently given by the extension of the railways. The share list of the company contains some of the most influential names in the colony connected with pastoral enterprise, and there is every reason to believe that the future of the company will be more prosperous than the business of the old firm has been in the past. The co-pro-prietors guarantee a dividend of 10 per cent, for three years, and will continue to manage the company.

The Tempkeanoe Crusade, like all other aggressive movements, goes beyond the bounds or reason and common Bense. Once these pales overstepped and it assumes the form of fanaticism. A great physiologist has said that, whilst the use of alcohol is, on general principles, more injurious than beneficial, great benefit may be derived from its use, medicinally administered, in appropriate cases. In these cases, he adds, it is a powerful remedial agent. Hence the endorsement of TJdouho Wolfe's Schiedam Abomatic Schnapps.—{Advt.] 14
