OBJECTIONS TO NAMES BEING ON ROLL.

W. Sievwright, Brandon-street. Mr. Sievwright asked that his name be struck off, and that that of the owner, the Rev. T. A. Bowden, be substituted. He only occupied a portion of the premises, the remaining rooms being rented as offices by other people. Mr. Ames explained that thsre was a difficulty in fixing assessments for portions of a house, and that was how Mr. Sievwright's name appeared for the whole. He would h ive no objection to the owner's name being substituted for Mr. Sievwright's. This course was adopted. J. E. Nathan, Featherston-street. —Objection disallowed.

G. Graham, Boulcott-street. —The name of H. E. Brandon was substituted.

C. Cheymol, Hunter-street. —Objection disallowed. PERSONS CLAIMING TO HAVE NAMES INSERTED.

S. S. Carty, Grey-street, in lieu of Wm, Dawson.—Claim allowed.

David Anderson, Custom House-quay, in lieu of Robert Martin.—Claim disallowed. W. B. Edwards and W. V. Jackson in lieu of T. K. Macdonald, Featherston-street. In this case Mr. Jackson and Mr. Cutten (for Mr. Edwards) both explained that they were part occupiers of the premises, but that Mr. Macdonald's name appeared on the roll for the whole. They, therefore, claimed to have their names also inserted, so as to them the voting power which their occupation of the premises entitled them to. After some discussion the claim of Mr. Edwards was allowed, but that of Mr. Jackson was adjourned for a week to enable notice to be given to Mr. Macdonald. S. W. Alcorn, Lambton-quay, in lieu of Mrs. Luhning.—Claim allowed. OBJECTIONS TO VALUE. S. W. Alcorn, Lambton-quay, shop occupied by Mrs. Luhning ; assessed at LIOO. Mr. Alcorn strongly objected to this shop being assessed at £IOO, and stated that the rent he received for it was £2 10s. per week. Mr. Ames stated that Mrs. Luhning had told him she was paying £3 per week. Mr. Alcorn explained that it was formerly £3, but he was now giving Mrs. Luhning credit for 10s. per week. After some further discussion, the case was adjourned for a week to enable Mrs. Luhning to appear. S. W. Alcorn, shop occupied by himself, assessed at £250.

Mr. Alcorn objected to this assessment, on the ground that it was in excess of that placed upon similar buildings. He instanced Vic-toria-buildings, now occupied by Messrs. R. Gardner and Co., which was assessed at a much lower figure. His Honor remarked that the case instanced was an exceptional one. He did not think Mr. Alcorn's assessment was too high. Mr. Ames stated that Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains' shop was assessed at £SOO. Mr. Alcorn's assessment was sustained. E. H. Brandon, Boulcott-street, assessed at £l2O. —Objection.disallowed. T. K. Warburton, Terrace, assessed at £6O. —Objection disallowed. T K. Warburton, Terrace, assessed at £45. —Objection disallowed. William Whittem, Willis-street, assessed at £450.

Mr. Whittem pointed out that the assessment of this property was too high. It had been made in the usual way, the rent being taken as the basis, but he was paying a high rent, having leased the place wheD times were much better than they now are.

Mr. Ames contended that the assessment was a fair one, as the buildings were of brick and very valuable. His Honor decided to reduce the assessment to £4OO.

Mr. Ames thought the property was fairly assessed, as the land was very valuable. The Wesleyan body, who owned land close to Rhodes' property, had recently refused £3 per foot ground rent for it. After some further consideration the first assessment was reduced to £250, the second to £9O, and the assessment of the third sustained.

\V. V. Jackson, Golden Fleece Hotel, Pakuratahi, £BO. Mr. Jackson explained that his reason for asking for a reduction was, that the hotel had not been licensed for some time past.
