BEPBESENTATTVE GAME MAORIS TO PLAY AUCKLAND The management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union decided last evening that a representative match should be played at Eden Park on September 22 between Auckland and a Maori team. The latter fifteen will be selected by Mr T. French and Dr M. X. Paewai. and it will contain players from other centres. The Aotea Club was granted permission to fiend its (senior and colts' teams to play the Waikato Club at Rotorua next Saturday. The chairman stated that the gate takings at the Auckland versus Wellington match last Saturday were £B4O 9s 9d. it was agreed to lend a set of jerseys to the newly-formed Howick sub-union to enable it to play the Parnell senior team at Howick on September 22. The chairman reported that he and other members of the committee had attended a. meeting at Pukekohe last week, which was very largely attended by officials of the subunions in the South Auckland area. He stated that it appeared that all .sub-unions would be commencing activities next season. The Otahuhu Club was granted permission to play the Waihi representative team at Sturges Park on September 22. The Manukau and Ponsonby junior teams were declared winners of the A arid B sections of the junior competition, and these two teams will play off for the grade championship. CRICKET DEFEAT NEW ZEALAND SERVICES CAPTAIN'S SPORTING ACTION LONDON, Sept. 4 Leveson-Gower's eleven beat the New Zealand Services' cricket team by eight wickets. On the first day New Zealand scored '220 and the Englishmen had replied with 121 for no wickets. England carried its total on Monday to 472 and New Zealand's second innings had opened for 10 runs without loss. Instead of ensuring an easy draw the New Zealand captain, K. C. James, declared at seven for 312. The New Zealanders' sporting action produced a real festival finish. Bowlers, batsmen and fieldsmen entered the field with the utmost speed. Wood hit two boundaries which helped his side to win b.v eight wickets. New Zealand resumed batting with 242 to wipe out its first innings deficit. James and Jacobs opened dourly but after .Robins came on the scoring rate quickened, James sending him to the ropes four times. Fifty came up in an hour. Jacobs was out when he late-cut, a ball from Matthews to second slip. Donnelly opened brilliantly, his first three scoring strokes being boundaries. Hutton and Matthews quietened the batsmen until Donnelly pulied Matthews for six. James was caught just before lunch at short-leg and New Zealand then required 05 to avoid an innings defeat. Donnelly carried on to Bfj before Robins dismissed him leg-before. Morgan was out without scoring, but -Ridland got 44, Burgess til not out, Badcock 7 and Roberts 12. THE LEAGUE CODE EXTENSION OF SEASON The extension of the season to October 20 was announced last evening by Mr J. W. Watson, chairman of the Auckland Rugby League. The final* of the Roope Rooster and Phelan Shield competitions: will be decided on September 29. when an Auckland team will play a return match at Huntly against South Auckland. The North v. South Islaud game will be played on October 6. In connection with the replay of the Roopo Rooster game between City and Otahuhu, it was decided that, should the teams draw at the end of four extra five-minute spells, both teams will be included in the draw for the remainder of the competition. A. Wiles and R. Xurse are not available fur the trip with the Auckland team to Wellington, and their places will be filled by J. Zane (Mount Albert) and G. Prenter (Richmond). Permission was granted for a junior representative team to play at Huntjy on September 29.

ASSOCIATION GAME SERVICES' CHALLENGE CUP The Whenuapai team successfully defended a challenge by Ardmore at Blandford Park yesterday afternoon for the Murray Services' Challenge Cup, winining 5—3. Play in the first half was mediocre, both sides having several players not in the regular teams, and some time was taken to settle down. Whenuapai led by the odd goal in three at half-time. Play brightened in the second spell, and Ardmore was unlucky not to make a draw. Wilkinson scored four goals, and a defender found his own net for Whenuapai, while Neut (2) and Nauman netted for Ardmore. CONTROL BOARD MEETING The special committee appointed by the control board of the Auckland Football Association to deal with the case of A. Ellis reported unanimously that there was nothing to warrant the reopening of the case in the two letters forwarded by the Watersiders' Club as fresh evidence. This means that the five years' suspension imposed on Ellis will stand. It was agreed to return the fee to the club. An appeal by the St. John Ambulance Association to take up a collection at Blandford Park on September '29 following the unnual street appeal on September 28. was granted.
