RELEASES FROM R.A.F. PLANS FOR RETURN HOME (N.Z.P.Special Correspondent) (Herd. <».;}() p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 5 The objective of R.N.Z.A.F. headquarters in London is to send home to New Zealand by Christmas every member of the 11.N.Z.A.F. who can be released from the R.A.F. The majority of the men can be released fairly quickly, but some cannot be replaced easily and they will he retained temporarily. The rate of return home deponds on shipping. Three of the six New Zealand squadrons in the European theatre have been disbanded—No. 480 (Spitfire) Squadron. No. -188 (Mosquito night fighter) squadron and No. 489 (Beaufighter torpedo bomber) squadron. No. 486 (Tempest) and No. 487 (Mosquito bomber) squadrons, which are still on the Continent, will be disbanded this month. No. 75 (Lancaster bomber) squadron will revert to its status as an English squadron. A certain number of New Zealanders aro applying for permanent commissions in the R.A.F. and it is expected thrvt others will take advantage of the scheme which provides for a further four years' service and a gratuity of £SOO.
