OTAGO'S POOR SCORE

MATCH WITH CANTERBURY HOME SIDE LEADS BY 196 (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday Otago mnde a poor showing in the representative cricket match against Canterbury at Lancaster Park on Saturday and was dismissed for 00 runs. Play did not begin until two o'clock, and the quick-drying wicket benefited the Canterbury bowlers, who were right on top throughout the innings. Burtt, Scott and Mcßae bowled well on a wicket that was reasonably true. Tho failure of the Otago batsmen was the result of their not using their feet to tho bowlers, and in the majority of cases the batsmen got themselves out. Roberts and Freeman were the only ones who looked like making runs, and both butted attractively. The fielding by Canterbury was excellent and splendid catches by Cromb and Burtt drew applause from the big crowd. A disappointing feature was the number of no-balls bowled by Scott and Mcßae, ten in all. Canterbury began well arid at stumps had lost one wicket for 75 (Cromb -11 not out). Canterbury continued its innings today and was all out shortly before six o'clock for 26:2. Cromb and Anderson played soundly, the former scoring 71 before being dismissed. The highlight of the match, however, was tho lastwicket stand by Burtt and Dnnnett, Burtt being not out for r>2. Otago's attack was good, with Roberts bowling splendidly, but the fielding was very poor. Scores:— OTAGO—First Innings l'\ W. Bellamy, b Burtt .. . . .. 4 A. X. Lawson, c Cromb, b Scott .. X C.
