A record increase of £41,982 brought total income to £383,841, the highest level yet attained. Cash advances were also of record dimensions, increasing by £13,470 to £301,881. The report states that the provision for temporary loans on the security of shares had been greatly appreciated. .As a result of a record increaso of £144,593 during the year the society's capital now amounted to £1,02.1,249 and total assets were in excess of £1.500,000. The de ; mand for shares in the society's new special groups had continued to increase and three of the double-sized "special" groups had been filled and commenced operations. Since the end of the financial year a further large "special" group, No. 40. had been opened and shares allotted. Members continuing with their subscriptions in groups 1 to 16, and who had been subscribing for at least 15 years would again receive their dividends during the current financial year, while members in group 17 would become eligible to receive their first annual dividends. The dividend rate had again bcon fixed at 10s a share and on shares where mortgages had been repaid an unchanged dividend of 2 per cent per annum would be paid. Working expense levies had again been fixed at Is 9d a share, payable in November. The retiring directors, Messrs P. Harrison and H. C. Savage, are nominated for re-election. With a view to speeding up appropriations by ballot and salo in the older groups of the society tho board had come to the conclusion that the best method to adopt would be for the society to repeal its non-borrowing rule and substitute a rule giving it power to borrow, by taking deposits up to a limited amount. To this end a special meeting would be held at the conclusion of the annual meeting, when a proposal to make the alterations to the rules would be placed before members. A total of £50,100 will be appropriated at an appropriation meeting after tho special meeting.
