It is hoped to have it laid down and sown in grass in the coming autumn. Members and friends have contributed over £'3oo toward the cost of the green. A unique feat in New Zealand bowling history was recorded in Ihe Mount Eden Club's championships last season. H. Wilson, formerly of the Lin wood Club (Christchurch), and well known throughout New Zealand, won tho senior event, while his son, h. >7. Wilson, was successful in the first-year championship. ~ , Mr G. W. A. Clark, who has retired from the position of honorary secretary of the Balmoral Bowling Club after a term of six years and who nas held various offices (including that of president) over a period of 17 years, was made a life-member at the annual meeting as a mark of appreciation of his services. , , . A presentation of a pipe and tobacco poucn was made to Mr. E. C. Delamore, a past green superintendent, at tho annual meeting of the Mount Eden Bowling Club. Mr. C. C. Forgie, the newly-elected president, referred to the excellent work Mr. Delamore had performed for the club, particularly in regard to the upkeep of the greens. Mr. A. K. Smart, New Plymouth has at : tended the annual meeting of tho Taranaki Bowling Centre for 40 years as the New Plymouth Club's delegate. Appreciation or his services was expressed at the annual meeting of the centre in Stratford. Mr. Smart, in reply, said ho was proud of the taranaki Ceutre, because he believed it to be one of the most advanced in the Dominion. J. Hemi, former Wairarapa Rugby representative and later an Auckland and New Zealand League representative, apparently intends playing in Wellington this season in preference to Auckland. He made his first appearance in the southern city recently, when he played for the Hokowhitu team in the Wellington League championship. Hemi converted two tries, one kick being from the

touchline. „ , , ~ . Karlier in the war the New Zealand Rugby Union ruled that League players who were in the Armed Services could play Rugby without the necessity for reinstatement. The dispensation included members of the Home Guard, and at a meeting of the executive last week a ruling was sought as to whether this still applied in view of the fact that Home Guardsmen had been asked to hand in their uniforms. The reply was that League players who arc ex-members of the Home Guard can now plav Rugby only after being reinstated. The return of R. Innes from overseas to the Ponsonby Soccer Club is a welcome addition to the game in Auckland. While he was awav Innes saw some first-class matches and also took part in many games in which his sides were pitted against some of the leading English and Scottish professionals, now in the Services. .In the games he has played for his old club since he returned Innes has shown that he has lost little of the cleverness that won him his place in «9 representative fixtures between 1020 and 1033. These included New Zealand representation on 20 occasions. GOLF COMPETITIONS Auckland Ladles. —Medal round:—Seniors: Mrs. H. P. Richmond, 87. 14—~-3; Mrs. J. R. Morris, 88, 11—77; Miss R.
