Y.W.C.A. CLUBS VISIT BY LADY NEWALL Keen interest in the work being done by the Young Women's Christian Association was expressed by Her Excellency Lady Newall when she paid an official visit to both tho Down Town Club and the Up Town Club last night. Lady Newall is patroness of the association in New Zealand. She was accompanied by Mrs. W. R. Wilson, president ol the Down Town Club, and received by tho Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, the president of tho Y.W.C.A., Mrs. T Derrick, and the general secretary, Miss Elsie iiennot. Floral tributes were presented to Her Excellency at both clubs.

Speaking to the servicemen and girls at the Down Town Club, Lady Newall told them of her experiences in England when she visited the country in 1941 and also remarked how tho people were now unafraid to stay above ground when enemy planes approached. After being introduced to the junior and senior hostesses, Her Excellency proceeded to inspect the club and joined in a game of ping pong. On arriving at the Up Town Club Lady Newall saw the work being done by the music, drama, floral art, dressmaking and leather work groups. She also visited the dancing and gymnasium classes and tho "Live Wire" circle, who were engaged in making articles for the Down Town Club shop. Her Excellency was presented with a souvenir pin-cushion from this group. When tho inspection was completed she congratulated the club on the opportunities it offered to young men and girls for filling in their leisure time. A short address was also given by Her Kxcelli'iiey on the activities of the Y.W.C.A. in England.

SERVICE WEDDING SCHOFIELD—LEMON The marriage of -Miss Eunice Margaret Lemon, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lemon, of Avondale, to Mr. Waayne Schofield, son of Dr. and Mrs. Earle T. Schofield, of Connecticut, U.S.A., took place at St. Matthew's Church, Wellesley Street, recently. The Rev. Canon It. G. Coats officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a lovely trained gown of white embossed satin, made with an unusual military styled bodice. Her embroidered tulle veil was held in place with a coronet of orange-blossom and miniature arum lilies, and she carried a sheaf of arum lilies. The bridesmaid, Miss Myrtle Roper, of Christchurch, cousin of the bride, wore an apple green robia silk frock trimmed with apricot velvet. In her hair she wore a coronet of autumn-tinted flowers and her bouquet was composed of the same flowers. Sergeant Alan Close, United States Army, was brao man. The recept'on was held at Lyons' tearooms.

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS APPEAL FOR YOUNG MEMBERS Methods of attracting young mothers to become members of the Auckland Provincial League of Mothers were discussed at yesterday's quarterly .meeting of the league, held in the Y.W.C.A. building. Some suggestions approved by a sub-committee, -which had met recentlv to consider the question, were placed before the meeting by the provincial president, Mrs. W. G. Utting. Members agreed that the sub-commit-too form a deputation to visit the headquarters of the Phinket Society -to see if it would be possible to contact young mothers through the district Plunket nurses.

A letter was received from the Arapuni branch asking if arrangements could bo made for children in that district to spend the term holiday in Auckland and in return children from the city to visit Arapuni. The secretary, Mrs. N. V. Lo Petit, reported that the league had sent letters to the 43 brides of repatriated New Zealand soldiers welcoming them to this country. Appreciation of a donation of £22 for patriotic purposes, raised by the league's patriotic shop, was expressed in a letter from the Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum.

CLUB CELEBRATION TWENTY-FIRST ANNIVERSARY The Mothers' Club of the Auckland Y.W.C.A. celebrated its 21st anniversary by an afternoon gathering at George Court's Tea Rooms on Tuesday, when tho president, Mrs. C. Rogers, presided over a large attendance. Mrs. Rogers said that among those present were three foundation members, Mrs. C. Leitz, Mrs. S. Hyland and Mrs. C. E. Sharp, who had been coming regularly to the meetings ever since the inception of the club. A welcome visitor was Mrs. Hugh Kasper, one of the original board members, who described tho first gathering held at her house 21 years ago to inaugurate the proposed club. Another speaker was Mrs. E. T. Price, now hostel personnel secretary, who was also associated with the founding of the club. During tea a musical programme was given. W.C.T.U. EXECUTIVE At the monthly meeting of the Auckland district executive of the W.C.T.U. it was decided to provide a tea for servicemen at the Y.M.C.A. on one Sunday during tho month. Mrs. J. Williams reported that tho Auckland district had won the banner again this yea.r for the largest number in tho Cradle Roll for tho Dominion. Preliminary arrangements were made to hold the district convention in Auckland during September.
