MATCH WITH SERVICES FIXTURE FOR NEXT MONTH Tho chairman of tho Auckland Rugby Union, Staff-Sergeant A. A. Baker, stated at a meeting of delegates last evening that a match liad becu arranged between the Auckland Combined Services and (he Auckland representative team to take place at Eden Park on August 12. The Auckland Colts will play a combined Pukekohe-Waiuku team at Pukekohe on the same day. A letter was received from tho Marist Old Hoys' club expressing disapproval at tho decision of the management committeee to play games against Iho .Otahuliu senior team at Otahuliu whenever possible. Tho letter pointed out that (he city clubs were being penalised unfairly by having to travel again during the second round. It was decided to refer the matter to the match committee for consideration. The To Aroha .Rugby Union wrote inquiring whether it would bo possible to send a club team to meet the To Aroha representatives on July 4 J'J or 29. It was decided to invite the clubs having byes on the dates mentioned to advise tho union whether such a mutch would be acceptable. The chairman made referonce to tho death of Mr. A. P. PEACE CUP CHALLENGES Much interest is being shown in Peace Cup Kugby fixtures this season after a decline during the last few years. The holder of the trophy, tho Maniapoto Rugby Sub-Union, reports that 12 challenges have been received, and it was decided to play seven games for tho trophy, with some unions playing off in elimination matches. Challenges have been received from the following:—Waipa, Otorohanga Waiuku, Pukekohe, Taumarnnui, Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Aroha. Thames, Hauraki Plains, Morrinsville Matamata. THE LEAGUE CODE SOUTH AUCKLAND MATCH Tho chairman or (tin Auckland League, Mr. J. W. Watson, stated at last evening's meeting that the leading teams in the championship, Cit.v and ..Manukau, would meet with strong opposition next Saturday and the matches should prove most interesting. It was decided tentatively to arrange a match between .Sou 111 Auckland and Auckland at Carlaw I'ark on August 5. The Otahutiu Borough Council advised that it was unable to permit the playing of games at Sturges I'ark. as the .Auckland Rugby Union liad arranged for tho use of the ground for tho duration of tho war. Mr. Watson said that tho matter would be reported upon during the noxt few weeks. Williams, chairman of the control board rtf ihe Auckland Football Association, stated at last night's meeting that tho four teams concerned were probably the strongest that had been selected and two fino exhibitions should eventuate. The inability of certain clubs to supply linesmen, particularly for games at Blandford Park, was strongly condemned. The Referees' Association's delegates stated that on many occasions certain clubs did not supply a linesman, although they had active members sitting in the stand. Tiie association had agreed that its members would not commence a match unless both linesmen had reported to the referee in conformity with the rules of the association. The chairman referred to the serious nature of this decision and the senior division committer delegate agreed to lay stress on the matter at the next meeting of club delegates.
