NAVY TEAM'S SUCCESS
REAPPEARANCE OFO. CLEAL
The first division championship garnet; of the Auckland Football Association were continued on Saturday afternoon. By il« defeat of Eastern Suburbs, Naval Depot retains the lead on the championship table. Ponsonby effected a surprise by beating Comrades in the early game at Blandford Park by two clear goals. Ponsonby had the services of the Auckland and New Zealand representative, O. Goal, whose play in the pivot position was a big factor in the win. The Comrades team was unlucky to have a couple of men injured, this affecting the usual combination. in the main contest, between Naval Depot and Eastern Suburbs, even exchanges marked the first spell, which ended in a lead for Navy of I—o. In the second spell, outstanding play by the Navy centre-half, Rutherford, broke up many dangerous Suburbs attacks, and enabled Navy to maintain a concerted attack. In this respect, Massoy made many openings for the dangerous front line, of which Macguire, in the centre, was the outstanding player.
