YACHT RACING

CLOSING- OF SEASON SEVERAL BOATS DAMAGED The official closing of the Auckland yachting season on Saturday was accompanied by flattening south-west squalls, and. although there was a large gathering of yachts of all classes at the start, capsizes (numbering 11), torn sails and broken running gear considerably reduced the fields. The damage to boats and gear is estimated to run into a considerable sum. Nine clubs took part in the combined events, which were controlled by officials of the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association. In spite of the conditions, those boats which stood up to the elements provided spectacular and close racing. The M and V classes, in particular, made a great showing, and it was unfortunate that Limerick was disqualified at the start. Over the line a minute before the gun, Limerick failed to come back, although the recall flag and her number wore hoisted for over two minutes. The most successful boat on the day was the V class .Teanette, with wins in seven clubs. Aileen (X class) and Lightning (T class) each scored six wing, while Marahi (M class) had five wins.
