MEAT RATION BASIS BOOKING CHARGE EXTRA (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Tuesday Because the meat ration is on an expenditure basis questions have arisen about the price that should be paid for meat. The rationing controller, Mr. J. 10. Thomas, stated to-night that the ration is related to the ceiling price under the meat price order and that these ceiling prices are for "cash and carry." "One question asked," he said, "is whether people in some districts may not get less meat than others through having to pay a higher prico for their meat on account of booking and delivery charges. The position is," said Mr. Thomas, "that the ration is related to the amount paid for meat only, excluding any incidental charges. For example, where meat purchases amount to Is -Id. but a penny of the total represents booking and delivery charges, then coupons need be surrendered only foils 3d, the net charge for meat. Where invoices are given in such eases it will be advisable foi- retailers to show the net charge for meat and additional charges as separate items."
