DIVORCE DECREES

UNDEFENDED CASES WIFE'S SUDDEN DEPARTURE Undefended divorce petitions were granted by Mr Justice Callan yesterday. J n support of his petition for divorce from Ivy May Cornish, Leonard Allan Cornish (Mr. Schramm) said that in October, 19>'55, when they were living in the King Country, his wife suddenly left home without warning, leaving their infant child with his mother. He had not seen her to speak to since. She had written to him in 1939 asking him to arrange a divorce. A decree nisi was granted, with interim custody of the child to petitioner. Separation was the ground on which decrees nisi were granted to Olga Connelly (Mr. G. Skelton) against Edward Norman Connelly, and to Elizabeth Maude Mathias (Mr. Townshend) against John Vincent Hope Mathias (Mr. Schramm). Adultery having been prayed against the respondent, decrees nisi were granted to Charles James Clarke (Mr. Schramm) against Myrtle Doreen Clarke (Mr. Sullivan) and John Grant (Mr. Sullivan), and to Flora Herrick (Mr. G. Skelton) against John Watson Percival Herrick. A decree nisi was granted to Esther Kllen Johnson (Mr. Eicld) against Algernon James Kennington Johnson on the ground of desertion. The respondent having failed to comply with an order for restitution of conjugal rights, a decree nisi was granted to Rowland Vincent Eden (Mr. Fraer) against Frances Eileen Eden. RESTITUTION SUITS VWO ORDERS MADE Evidence that he had come home on army leave last August and found that his wife had left their flat and gone to her mother's place was given by Jack Delaval Lucas (Mr. Schramm), who sought an order for restitution of conjugal rights against Rita Gwendolyn Lucas (Mr. Meek). The only reason she had given him. he said, was that she wanted her freedom. She had repeatedly refused to return. In making an order for restitution of conjugal rights within 21 days. Mr. Justice Callan emphasised that if the respondent did not return and failed to offer any explanation of her conduct she would put herself in the position of a wife who had deserted her husband.
