NAYAL WEDDING WATSON—NEUMEGEN The marriage of Miss Marie Joyce Neiunegen, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Neumegen, 129 Grafton IJoad. to Lieutenant John Leslie Watson, 1?.N.Z.N.1t.,, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Watson, of Guildford, Surrey, England, was celebrated yesterday afternoon. The bride wore a charming I rock of pottery pink, finished with appliqued leaves, and a spray of red roses. Her hat and accessories were navy blue. Lieutenant-Commander W. Craiko, 1t.N.Z.N.1t., was best man. A large reception was held in the evening at the home of the bride's parents, Mrs. Neumegen receiving the quests in a frock of midnight blue, with which she wore a spray of red earnations WAR SERVICE AUXILIARY <O.C.) WIIANG Aft EI, Monday About £l5O was raised by the Whangarei Women's War Service Auxiliary at a rally 011 Saturday. Units of the auxiliary from other districts in the Middle North, as well as other Whangarei organisations, assisted in the rally, which gave the public the biggest demonstration yet seen in Northland of the part being played by women in the war. TWO CENTENARIANS It is not often that two people in the same district celebrate their 100 th birthday at the same time, but this occurred in Hawke's Bay last week. One centenarian was Mrs. J. White, wbo was born on the banks ot the Wairoa River, at Tuoliu, and has lived in Hawke's Bay all her life, most of the time at Wairoa and more recently

at Hastings and Napier. She is the eldest daughter of the late Mr. Joseph Carroll and sister to the late Sir James Carroll. The other centenarian, Mrs. Jane .BoyJe, who was born in Ireland, has been a resident of Waipawa for some 60 years. On the occasion of her birthday a public celebration was held in her honour at the Waipawa sports ground. LADY MONTGOMERY Lady Montgomery, mother of General Sir Bernard Montgomery, commander of the Eighth Army, lives in an old-world house, built in 1776, overlooking Lough Foyle, in Northern Ireland. A daughter of Dean Farrar, of Canterbury, England, she was engaged when she was only 14, and married in her 17th year, having school lessons up until the day before her wedding. Her husband was for 12 years Bishop of Tasmania. SOCIAL NEWS Mrs. J. Anthony Carr, Sea view Road, Remuera, has returned from a fortnight's visit to Wellington. Mrs. A. C. Turnbull and Miss Turnbull have returned to Samoa after a long visit to New Zealand. Mrs. Melville Gudgeon, of Waioro Station, Tiki tiki, east coast, accompanied by Miss Cicely Gudgeon, is at the Esplanade Hotel, Devonport. Leading-Wren Mary Morten, of Christchurch, is serving in Auckland as mess caterer to an officers' mess. Before leaving Christchurch she was a well-known commissioner of Girl Guides.
