FEUD FORGOTTEN

WELCOMES BIY ARAWAS ALL TRIBES REPRESENTED (S.R.) ROTORUA, Tuesday Any remaining traces of the feud which existed for nearly a century between the Waikato and Arawa tribes were obliterated to-day when King Koroki and a party of his people arrived at Ohinemutu to participate in the official opening to-morrow of the Arawa centennial memorial meetinghouses at Te Awahou and Ohinemutu. The Waikatos were received in the traditional manner, by wahines waving green branches and chanting a song of welcome. Throughout the day and evening similar receptions were given to parties representing all the other tribes of the Dominion. The occasion has great significance to the Maori people. On Thursday a conference of tribal representatives, to be opened by the Prime Minister, tho lit. Hon. P. Eraser, will be held, and at this aspects of the Maori war effort will be discussed. Particular attention will be given to the maintenance and reinforcement of the fighting Maori units while the war lasts, the organisation of Maori units in the home defence scheme and in production and industry, the rehabilitation of Maori ex-service-men, and how the Maori people can assist in tho provision of homes and farms. The place of the Maori people after the war and the most suitable and effective form and scheme of education to enable the Maori to take a greater share in the life, welfare and work of the Dominion will also be discussed.
