WIN FOR UNIVERSITY 30WLERS DOMINANT EARLY The principal attraction staged by the Auckland Cricket Association 011 Saturday was an all-day match at Eden Park between Universily-Middlemore and the Kotorua Army team, which was won by the former by .59 runs on the first innings. The Army side, which won the Bay of Plenty championship this season, won the toss and sent University in. The wicket proved tricky and University was dismissed for 1(13. W. Drummond. who plaved a good innings in the later stages, was top scorer with 27. H. Bennett, the former Eden player, took four wickets for 45 with his medium-pace deliveries, and J. Hoskins, the fast trundler, met with more success toward the close of the innings to finish with four for IT. Rotoriia replied with 104, G. W. De la more giving a bright display for 25, while Bennett ('2l), played solidly as opening batsman. F. M. Andrews took nvo wickets for 43 in a steady spell of bowling. SUBURBAN GAMES RAPID AND HIGH SCORING Rapid and high scoring at the Domain on Saturday was a feature of the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association's senior grade championship final series, which was won by Manukau. Four centuries were scored, : anil in under two hours of batting, 243 runs were scored in two matches. In the principal game, between Green Lane and Air Force, the former beat the airmen by only one run. Green Lane scored 243 for the loss of one { wicket, and the opening pair, L. Monteilh and D. Hetheringlon, compiled 120 and 117 respectively. Air Force put up a fine effort with five wickets. Against R.V., Brixlon's opening batsmen, ft. Longville and F. Wood scored 117 and 113, respectively, and the team made 243 for the loss of one wickel. This was the fourth century compiled this season by Longville. R.V. put. up a splendid shsowing, and scored 23,S for the loss of six wickets. N. Goldsworthy 74, and R. Simpson 03. were associated in a fine opening partnership. The four centuries scored by opening batsmen, is a record for suburban championship matches. Manukau won the season's honours by defeatine M.T.P. on the first innings. Manukau compiled 147 for six wickets, and the Army eleven was dismissed for 01. J. Mann, the Manukau captain, secured five wickels for 21 runs.
