IiOOI'E BOOSTER GAMES

FINAL ON SATURDAY NEXT Two splendidly-contested games were witnessed at Carliiw Park on Saturday afternoon, when the Auckland Rugby League concluded the second series of matches in the Roopc Rooster competition. Only one point separated the teams in both matches, and in each case the lowing teams were a little unlucky. In the principal game, Marist-North Shore defeated City-Otahuhu, while in the curtainraiser Richmond won from Ponsonby. Several heavy showers made conditions unpleasant, and the attendance was only fair. Marist-North Shore will play Richmond in the final next Saturday. City-Otahuhu did not want for scoring opportunities in the first half of its game against Marist-Xorth Shore, but the backs failed to register points, while selfishness cost at least two tries. City-Otahuhu led at halftime by 8 points to 2. Marist-Xorth Shore was more successful in the second spell, and its spoiling tactics upset the opposing team The forwards were much lighter than the City-Otahuhu set, and credit is due to the pack for splendid work in the loose. The backs also showed superior initiative in passing bouts. Good hooking by Rutherford played a decisive part in the victory. City-Otahuhu appeared to be penalised, unduly, for forward passes. The best, of the North Shore-Marist backs were Costello, Chatham and McWilliams. The trio tacklod well, and combined effectively on occasions. Symons played a sound game at fullback, and Crocker, behind the scrum, was a tower of strength. The forwards were very even, Hunt, Skinner and Fields playing good games. Results were:—Marist-Xorth Shore, 15 (tries by Fields, Hunt, Costello, Symons converting two and kicking a penalty goal), CityOtahuhu, 14 (tries by Mataira, A. Donovan, McManus and J. Johnson, Donovan converting one); Richmond, 7 (try by Satherley, converted by Magill, who also kicked a penalty goal), Ponsonby, 6 (tries by Kay and Briggs). WINTER YACHTING The final race of the winter yachting 6eries of the Tamaki Yacht Club was held off Bastion Point in a hard westerly wind, which caused trouble. Breeze capsized and some boats stood by her, while minor mishaps caused the retirement of others. A further race was held, the result being:—Koala (R. Fraser), 1: TiOrna (H. Liddle), 2; Ruru (Private D. Whiting),
