GOOD FORM AT EPSOM PETER BINGEN SUCCESSES BY ABAYDOS The good performance of Jewel Pointer in siring three winners at the Auckland patriotic trotting meeting on July 25 was overshadowed by Peter Bitigen last Saturday, when four of his progeny won. Winners by Peter Biucren were Home Guard, Double Peter, Erua Peter and High Play, while Etta Girl, an improving trotter, was second to Home Guard. In winning the Introductory Handicap Home Guard made amends for her poor displays in April ana July. Double Peter, whose record last season was three firsts and four placing for 13 starts, was responsible for a very solid performance to win the August Handicap from 30 yards behind, and run 3.33 in heavy ground. There is no doubt about the quality of Double Peter, who may be an Auckland Trotting Cup prospect. Erua Peter, whose only previous success was as a pacer a year ago. was having only his fourth race since being converted, and in spite of two bad lapses he outclassed the beet trotters in the province to win the Royal Oak Handicap. Erua Peter was driven by L. J. Mahoney, who won the Rowe Memorial Handicap with Pirate's Last and Gay Moko. In Erua Peter he may have another likely candidate. High Play, a good-looking pacer from Her Ladyship, won the Takanini Handicap in a manner that augurs well for future success. His two previous wins were at Hawera. where he created a very favourable impression. High Play is bred on excellent lines and looks like reaching good class. As at the patriotic meeting, one of the easiest wins was credited to the improved Parrish Lad, a sturdy son of Great Parrish. In winning the two miles Orakei Handicap. Parrish Lad revealed good staying powers and he should not be long in making the grade for the more important handicaps. When he won the Massey Memorial Handicap Shadow Son registered his first success in Auckland and also extended the good record of E. E. Cress.v as a trainer. Shadow Son. like his sire, Red Shadow, handled the holding ground in fine style. Cressy was a shade unlucky in not winning with Charles Rex, whose turn should be near. Isabella Pointer added to her consistent record by third place in the August Handicap. Dunkirk was seen at his best to win the Grey Lynn Handicap narrowly in a keen finish with Certify and Charles Rex. The winner, who is by Man o" War. and is trained by J. Gee, was driven a well-judged race by A. W Broughton. M Stewart has not had Certify very long, and the good showing of the Quite Sure pacer was most encouraging The spirited support for Hilda Potts when she won the second division of the Mount Eden Handicap, ga.ve proof that she did not lose any friends by her previous defeats. The Jack Potts filly revealed stamina and courage in holding off e determined challenge from Master Lawn, who ran his best race. Hilda Potts ran 3.1. 3-5 off 3.5, recording the same time as Dunkirk, who was on 3.1. Gwen Grattan, who showed improvement in winning at the Hamilton matinee last month, scored decisively in the first division. The Grattan Loyal mare has improved in stamina. She was driven by E. N. Kennerley. who also won with Shadow Son. L. J. Mahoney. Double Peter and Erua Peter, was the only other to win twice. HASTINGS GALLOPS CENTREPOISE IN FORM (0.C.) HASTINGS, Wednesday Centrepoise, who is engaged in the Avondale Cup, was responsible for a good effort over a mile at Hastings yesterday. On a dead track he recorded 1.43, finishing in a manner that suggests he is very fit. A smart half-mile was registered by Gay Falcon, who heat St. Vitus in 51 2-ss. Over the same distance Lenardo shaded Darag in 52 2-ss. Tashi Lama and Princess Baffles ran 535, time equalled by Parvati in beating Curry. Lastik impressed by galloping five furlongs from a standing start in 1.4. Worton, Cheddington and Penuilt recorded 1.4 2-5. Cheddington doing comfortably. Tawhainui, Enthrall and Sports Flash were together in 1.4 3-5. Dash Up ran 1.6 and Ivar, not fully extended, 1.7. On the plough Si.vana pleased by sprinting the last three furlongs of a round in 3Ss. In a similar task Kinkajou and Gayest Son took 435. Among the two-year-olds to work. Barrosa, by Paper Money from Knockfin, shaded La Serina, by Phaleron Bay from Martial Ladv, at the end of three furlongs in 37 2-ss. A filly by Bulandshar from Hathor easily accounted for Nightward in 38s. Khurja, Flying Spy and Grey Spy gave good jumping displays. The Ring was tried, ut refused to jump any of the obstacles.
