CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER MANUKAU TEAM'S SUCCESS Only two more games remain to be played in the Auckland Rugby League's championship series, and the Manukau team is assured of the honours. In the principal match at Carlaw Park on Saturday afternoon, Manukau comfortably defeated Richmond in a fast and open game. Both teams gave a high-class exhibition, but superior weight all round gave Manukau the advantage. For the first time this season no points wore scored np to nailtime. In the curtain-raiser, Manet-Isorth Shore showed improved form and comfortably beat Newton-Mount Albert. Ponsonby s superior combination won it tho game against CityOtahuhu. The well-known Auckland Rugby representative forward, R. R. Hull, played for Ponsonby. Manukau and Ponsonby are now equal for the special victory trophy, and the teams have yet to meet. A large crowd witnessed the games. With two of its regular , backs in the forwards, Richmond was handicapped for weight against the Manukau forwards, but nevertheless put up a sterling fight in the first spell, holding a territorial advantage. In the second spell, good combined play gave Manukau the ascendancy, and some clover tries were scored. The second try scored by Manukau wa6 easily the best of the game, McGregor, the Richmond centre, gave a splendid display for the losing team. Among the best of the backs wero Butler, who played dashing football on the wing, and Hemi, whose weaving runs troubled the opposition. Martin played his usual sound game at fullback. Te lai, Watene and Thow played good games in the forwards. . Results were:—Manukau, 39 (tries by Shilton, Butler, Thow, Hemi and 'le Tai, Chase concerting two), Richmond, II (try by Davies); Ponsonbv, 'J.') (tries by Nurse, Kay, Morrel!, Jordon and Williams, Kay converting three and kicking a penalty goal), City-Otahuliu, 11 (try by Gould, converted by A. Donovan, who also kicked one penalty goal, and two penalty goals by Muliins); Marist-North Shore, 18 (tries by Hunt, Costello find McLeod, Meredith converting two), Newton-Mount Albert, 3 (try by Clements).
