MORE HEAVY RAIN
GOOD FALL IN NORTH BENEFIT TO FARMING Heavy rain fell in Auckland yesterday, the conditions being warm and humid. The downpour will be beneficial to gardens and conserve winter feed. Iu the 24 hours up to nine o'clock yesterday morning, .54in. of rain was recorded. The total rainfall for the 24 hours ended at midnight, according to the Herald gauge was .66in. Steady and heavy rain, which will be of inestimable value to farmers, commenced to fall at Whangarei on Tuesday and continued without a break, increasing in intensity yesterday morning. Up to 9 a.m. yesterday .72 inches had fallen and this figure was more than doubled by nightfall. Creeks are swollen to some extent and unless the downpour decreases the first flooding for months seems probable. Pastures are having their first drenching since the dry spell of February and March, relieving the concern of farmers, some of whom had already made inroads into winter fodder for stock.
