LOCAL BODY TROUBLES APPEALS TO BE LODGED SATURDAY WORK NECESSARY (0.C.) HAMILTON. Wednesday When a list of employees of the Central Waikato Electric-Power Board, who had been called up for the Army, was read by the secretary, Mr. H. J. Beeche, at a meeting of the board today, Mr. F. L. Onion said there seemed to be a lack of balance between the requirements of industry and the Army. Mr. R. G. Young said some extraordinary things were done in the Army. Experienced transport drivers were placed in the infantry and new men were trained to drive trucks. The board resolved to appeal for a number of essential married men who had been called in recent ballots. It was stated that 28 employees were with the Armed Forces. In & report submitted to Haxnilton Borough Council this evening, the town clerk, Mr. W. L. Waddel, said the council staff would have to be called on .to work on Saturday mornings, even if overtime had to be paid. The work was increasing and there were fewer people to handle it. Meter-read-ing would have to be done every two months, instead of monthly. On the motion of the Mayor Mr, H. D. Caro, it was decided to ask the inside and outside staff of the council to return to duty on Saturday morning at double rates of pay.
ASSISTANCE ON FARMS appeal to reservists (0 c ) WAIHI, Wednesday An appeal was made to reservists by the chairman of the No. 2 Military Manpower Committee, Mr. Edwin Edwards, at a sitting in Waihi, for cooperation in making a genuine effort to obtain assistance on their farms, thus enabling them to enter camp, particularly in view of the seriousness of the position and the fact that married men with children were being called up.
