OLD PADDLE STEAMER
PURCHASE FOR SCRAP The paddle steamer Mountaineer, which has been lying at anchor at Walter Peak, Lake Wakatipu, since she was withdrawn from the lake service in 1931, has been purchased by a syndicate from the present _ owner, Lieutenant-Colonel P. Mackenzie It is intended to scrap the vessel and transport the metal to Dunedin for probable use in naval construction. ine Mountaineer was built in 18/9, and did useful work on the lake for more than half a. century.
