ARRANGEMENTS FOR JUNIORS A 'Vote of condolence with the re!atives of the late Mr G. A. Tyler was passed at a meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union last evening. Mr. A. A. Baker presided. Mr V. Miller, representing the Primary Schools' Board, was welcomed by the chairman*. Applications for the use of the Newton shed for training received, from the Manst Old Boys' and Technical Old Boys Clubs were granted. , . # It was resolved that the opening date for junior football should be May 2, when noncompetitive matches will be played, the competitions to start on May 9. In connection with the junior competitions, every effort is to be made to cater for players in the various military camps and to allow them to nominate the clubs they wish to play for „ Mr. J. Bonham, Physical Welfare Officer, informed the junior management board that a large number of Air Force 1 raining Cadets was anxious to participate in Rugby this season, and suggested a separate competition for these players. It was agreed to provide a comrietition if sufficient teams were available. The suspension of a Suburbs player for six playing Saturdays, for an offence cofflmitted on July 6, 1940. was endorsed. The matter of weights and ages of players in the junior boys' competitions and the sixth grade was referred to a sub-committee consisting or two representatives of the Junior Manaeement Board, Junior Boys' Board, with Mr Lennard. of the Secondary Schools, and Mr V/ Miller, of the Primarv Schools, who will submit a report on their findings at the next me»ting The followine annointments were made:--Deputy chairman. Thompson, secretary to the Hamilton Rugby Union, last evening, when referring to the large number of players who had joined the military forces. ARMY TEAMS TO COMPETE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday In response to an offer by the New Zealand Rugby Union to place its facilities for playing Rugby, as well as those of affiliated unions, at the disposal of the Army authorities during the coming season, the secretary. Mr. A. E. Neilsou, received advice to-day that the offer had been accepted. The men of the various camps in the Dominion will be given every opportunity to organise teams to play in the district competitions Footballers not required for Service teams will he at liberty to play for district clubs. PLAYERS OVERSEAS (Special Correspondent) (Kccd. 5.35 p.m.) LONDON, April 14 The Royal New Zealand Air Force Rugby team played an interesting series of games during the winter, winning and losing an equal number Sergeant E Grant (Poverty Bay), who captained the team, was reserve for the R.A F side which beat Army, 14—S, at Richmond recently. He played for the Barbarians against Midlands at Leicester, the former team, which included several internationals. winning 21 —11 It is regarded a great honour to be invited to play for the Barbarians. Grant is at a training station where there are I'2 New Zealanders in the R.A.F. team, which in five ganws scored 174 points and had only three registered against it.
