HARD RIMU TIMBER
When the Kairanga County Council discussed the great difficulty of securing bridge stringers, mention was made of the hardness of rimu secured from the hills near Linton. This timber, it was stated, was very much harder than rimu obtained from the Main Trunk areas, and was nearly as hard as ordinary maire. The engineer, Mr. L. C. Pickering, said it was so hard that spikes could not b.e driven into it in the ordinary manner —the holes had to be bored first.
