GENEROUS RESPONSE
BINOCULARS FOR SERVICES So far the Government has received a total of 9000 binoculars and telescopes for use by the fighting services. Fifty per cent of them are of the required type and power. One-third of them have been donated by their owners, while the greater part of the remainder have been loaned to the Government for the duration of the war. This statement was made last night by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones. The Minister said that although the appeal was launched only a fortnight ago, the immediate requirements of the Army, Navy and Air Force had been obtained. In view of the closeness of war to the shores of the Dominion, however, a further supply of binoculars and telescopes would be necessary and he asked for more to be handed in. Mr. Jones thanked those people who had already responded, particularly exservicemen who had contributed binoculars and telescopes which had a considerable sentimental value to them. -
