EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS CRITICISM AT MEETING A request by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, that sympathetic consideration should be given to applications for taxicab licences received from returned soldiers, on the lines of a letter he had had from the Returned Services' Association, drew heated comment from Mr. R. Armstrong, at a meeting of the Metropolitan Licensing Authority yesterday. He said it was high-time such ministerial interference was stopped. When a soldier went into the Army, he said, he had a job to do, and when he came back he was a "returned civilian." The returned 6oldier humbug was all wrong. ' The Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum: A soldier does not go to do his job, but our job. Mrs. M. M. Dreaver said the Minister's suggestion had been niisinterpreted.
