BOMB OUTRAGES

AUSTRALIAN TRAGEDY

TROUBLE ON GOLDFIELD

VIOLENT FOREIGN GANG

(Reed. 8.50 p.m.) KALGOORLIE, Feb. 2 Nine persons, seven of whom are believed to be Yugoslavs were killed and 22 injured in bomb outrages at Boulder, a town close to Kalgoorlie, early to-day. The first explosion occurred just after midnight at a private house in Davis Road. A bomb came through a window and wrecked the dwelling, seven being killed outright and two of the injured people died later in hospital. The second outrage was perpetrated a few minutes later at a delicensed hotel about 150 yards away. Two men and a woman were injured in the explosions which occurred on these premises. The roof and a brick wall were blown out. A man was observed in the backyard lighting a bomb fuse and was seen to hurl it into tha kitchen. Another bomb came from a different direction. The occupants had the luckiest escape. The bodies of the men killed in the Davis Road explosion were so badly mutilated that identification was difficult. All the injured from this house are in a serious condition. English-speaking Yugoslavs are co-operating with the police in making an investigation of the crime and arrests are expected. The police suspect the bombings is the culmination of a feud among the foreign element, comprising mostly Yugoslavs, Italians, and Czechoslovakians, who recently have been brawling at Goldfields centres. The home of the Goldfields magistrate was recently bombed, but nobody was injured.

SHIP RAMS TWO U-BOATS

LONDON, Feb. 2 The members of the crew of a Canadian merchant ship believe that their vessel recently rammed two U-boats within the space of a few minutes. "At first we thought we had been torpedoed, and then a few minutes later w r e hit something else," said a member of the crew. "A corvette shortly after dropped depth charges." The merchant vessel reached port with her bows smashed in.

COLLAPSED LUNG ARRANGED

LONDON, Feb. 1 "Complaint of one lung" is the latest trick employed by shirker?! seeking to dodge army service. Shortly before his army medical examination a man has one lung collapsed by an unscrupulous doctor. He is then X-rayed and the negative is shown to the army doctor to prove that his lungs are affected. Later the collapsed lung is restored to normal. Having been warned, army doctors are now able to detect the deception.
