% AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON

LEADING PLAYERS APPEARING

What will be the only representative cricket match in New Zealand of the 1941-42 season will be played at Eden Park on Friday. Saturday and Monday next between teams representing Auckland and Wellington. Although some of the leading players of both provinces are not available for various reasons, two strong all-round elevens will take the field. The Auckland team includes three New Zealand representatives in G L Weir (captain), D. R. Garrard and C K Jackman. Apart from H T. Pearson G Wallace and H. Harrison, who have represented Auckland, and B. Sutcliffe and H G Walters, who have both acted as twelfth man, the others are new to representative cricket All these six players have been performing consistently well this season with either hat or ball or both. N Ellis and Cooper have both scored a lot of runs, while H Nottinan has good bowling averages to his credit. In addition to batting and bowling, Auckland appears to be a very sound fielding side. The Wellington eleven contains a liberal sprinkling of Army players, the better known of whom are D. S. Wilson (captain), Wellington representative; R. E. J. Menzies, Canterbury and New Zealand; P. M. Andrews, Auckland; M. A. O'Brien, Hawke's Bay and Wellington Wilson has been a most consistent run-getter throughout the season, his latest effort being 129 retired on Saturday last. Andrews is the former Middlemore bowler who has had good averages in Wellington, his figures for Saturday last being four for 47. Menzies is well known as one of the leading batsmen in the Dominion during the past three or four seasons. He was the outstanding performer for the Army'team in the Auckland, senior competition before Christmas, his average being over 100 O'Brien, more solid than brilliant, has compiled a number of useful scores for both Hawke's Bay and Wellington. A. W. Riddolls, son of an ex-Auckland umpire. Mr H. W. Riddolls, will be remembered by Aucklanders as a member of Y.M.C.A. teams a few >ears ago. A bowler who will be making his first appearance in Auckland is R. Allen, who took six wickets for 56 runs for Kilbirnie against Wellington College Old Boys last Saturday PLAY IN THE COUNTRY Whangarei.—The feature of Whangarei club cricket on Saturday was a well made 77 by M.
