TOURNEY AT ROTORUA

SECTION PLAY IN RINKS

(0.C.) ROTORUA, Monday The 40th annual rinks tournajnent conducted by the Rotorua Bowling Club was commenced to-day. There are 55 teams participating and the visitors wersj) welcomed by the president of the club, Mr. EL J. Portman. In spite of light rain early in the morning the greens played well. I and 1; Gordon (Carlton). 1 and 1 CLUB TOURNAMENTS Ponsonby.—Twenty-eight teams took part in an intermediate tournament which was played in four sections. The winners were: — Section A, Purdy (Rocky Nook); section B, Reynolds (Hallyburton-Johnstone); section C, Brinsden (Carlton); section D, Hunt (Grey Lynn). In inter-section play Purdy beat Reynolds, and Hunt boat Brinsden. The final will bo played on Saturday next. The final of a Saturday afternoon tournament resulted in Welshman, Sussex, Lovett and Lennie defeating Lawson. Mason, Galloway and Harris PLAY IN THE COUNTRY Whangarel. The Whangare' Bowling Club's annual rinks tournament, concluded on Saturday, drew entries from 24 teams, including some visiting rinks. Nine qualified for post-section play and, to avoid a bye, Morris was drawn to play Staple, whom he defeated Whitelaw beat Morris, Brewis beat McNay. and Ellet beat Wilding in ensuing games. Whitelaw heat Nesbit. 17—12. and Brewis beat Ellet, 15—14. In the final Roberts, Jones. Eve*ett and Whitelaw beat Burcb, Judd. Morrish and Brewis, 23—1 G. In a supplementary tourney Parker (Kaitaia) skipped the winning pair. Morrinsville.—The Morrinsville Bowling Club staged a full-rink open tournament, 14 teams being entered At the end of the day two rinks were equal with five wins each. These were Patterson, Pole, Lawrie and Buchan (Morrinsville) and Bailey, Bliss. Maingay and H. Rosenfeldt (Te Aroha)
