RAILWAY WORKERS

4300 WITH ARMED FORCES (0.C.) HAMILTON, Monday The danger of employing an insufficiently trained railway staff was referred to by Mr. G. S. Reid, district traffic manager, Railway Department, Auckland, when giving evidence before the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board to-day. Mr. Reid said an untrained staff was likely to result in a serious loss of efficiency and in errors of judgment in handling trains. The safety of the travelling public, ho said, was of paramount importance. Mr. Reid quoted figures to show the shortage that existed in trained personnel, and added that 4300 New Zealand rail way men were serving with the armed forces.
