CONVICTS SHOT DEAD
BOLD DASH FOR FREEDOM MANILA. Oct, 22 Four convicts were shot dead and six were seriously wounded when 14 members of a chain gang escaped and engaged in a gun battle with their guards. Four of the men are still at large and a man-hunt is in progress. One member of the chain gang clubbed his guard inside a hut and wrested his gun from him. The cartridges luckily had just been removed from the rifle. The convicts escaped to a scrub area, over which the guards kept watch. When the men made a dash under the cover of darkness the guards opened tire.
