FARMER AND CONTRACTOR DEATH OF MR. J. W. BINDON The death occurred on Saturday of Mr. John Waller . Bindon, of Lake Road, Takapuna, who would have completed his 94th year on December 31. lie was a son of Dr. John Yereker Bindon, and was born at Moneygall, King's County, Ireland. Mr. Bindon was the oldest of five brothers, and the whole family came out to New Zealand under an early settlement scheme, arriving at Whaupu, between Russell and Opua, in February, 1866. Among their fellow-passengers were the late Mr. A. C. Caughey and the late Mr. H. C. Choyce, founders of well-known city firms. Dr. Bindon returned to London, hut the sons settled on a farm at Whangae, near Kawakawa. Later Mr. J. W. Bindon moved to Ohaeawai, where he lived for many years until he retired and came to settle in Takapuna in 1920. He was married in Wellington in 1891 to Miss KUen Kinsella, who died in TO:'./). Mr. Bindon made his farm at Ohaeawai one of the show places of the north, hut when produce prices were low he found other outlets for his activities. He took mail contracts and ran a coaching service in the Bay of Islands, and took building contracts for houses and bridges and for the Russell Wharf. He is survived by three sons and a daughter and by four grandchildren.
