SERVICE APPEALS

BOARD'S DECISIONS FINAL fO.C.) "WELLINGTON, Thursday

The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Eraser, states that it has been found neither desirable nor practicable to provide for appeals against the decisions of the Armed Forces Appeal Board. This statement has been made in reply to a question asked recently in the House of Representatives by .Mr. W. P. Endean (Opposition— Remuern). Mr. Eraser states that the Appeal Boards are fully competent to determine appeals impartially and fairly on the evidence submitted. Jurisdiction to grant a rehearing is vested in these boards, which may reopen a case if they have reason to suppose that any determination has been procured by fraud or that new and material evidence has been discovered. They have power under such circumstances to cancel, vary or confirm the previous decision.
