RENTAL CAR CHARGES

INCREASE AUTHORISED ]n view of increased operational costs, the No. 1 Licensing Authority, Mr. L. ,1. Phelan, at a public sitting yesterday authorised rental car firms in Auckland to increase their charges bv as much as 25 per cent. The new charges will become operative immediately. Although oil, spare parts and tyres are now about, oil per cent deaior, tins is the first increase granted the companies since the scale of charges was lixed in 1929. The amount ot petrol allowed lor use in each rental car has been limited to a maximum of five gallons, said the manager of one large company, and this has caused business to jail away considerably. Longdistance trips are now out of the question.
