GREATER WAR EFFORT
TAPPING SURPLUS INCOMES (Herd. 1.1.". a.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. '22
' The Government will not he satisfied until the whole of the unemployed who are physically lit have been put to work and all labour resources used to the best advantage," said the Prime .Minister. Mr. Curtin, to-day, alter a meeting of the War Cabinet. 'Through /the control of investment the Government will cause more of the labour and resources now employed in the production of non-essential goods to he transferred to war goods production. In this way the war effort will be expedited without disturbing the living standard of the basic wage earner.
"AH persons with surplus incomes not required to meet the basic needs of a reasonable standard of living could, with profit to themselves and the community, place these surpluses at the disposal of the Government. A financial plan will lie designed to tap those surplus incomes, but there is much people could do voluntarily."
