CONCERT BY CHOIRS

AN ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME The Auckland Juvenile Choir and the Auckland Ladies' Choir presented an enjoyable programme of songs at their second concert ef the season in the Lewis Eady Hall last, night, before a large audience. The work of the Juvenile Choir is distinctly promising: all their numbers were marked by careful attention to detail, excellent diction and confident part singing. An urgently needed development of tone quality will produce a really good choir. Their songs, which included works by I'm reel I, Bach. Mozart and Parry, were, with a single exception, well chosen and pleasantly sung. Some excellent part-singing was presented by the Auckland Ladies' Choir. A throe-part arrangement by Poberton of "Cherry Pipe" and "Come, Ever Smiling Liberty," from Handel's "Judas Maceahacus," bore evidence of good vocal training and were especially pleasing for their freshness and restraint. Movements from trios by Hnvdn and Bach wero played by Helen Gray (violin), Lalla Hemus ('cello) and" Phyllis Ploy (piano), and several solos by members of the choirs were also included. Miss Ida Holmes was the conductor and Mrs. R. Heed the accom pnnist.
