AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEYS RANKING MATCHES CANCELLED A recommendation from the inlor-club committee to the meeting of delegates of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association that players in open grade matches should play in arbitrarily fixed doubles combinations was unanimously defeated last evening. Speakers stressed the importance of employing recognised combinations which were more frequently found in the open grade than in lower grades. Advice was received from the Now Zealand Association that the Auckland Association's request for permission to conduct the Dominion junior championships this season had been granted. It was decided to recommend January 21 to January 2*l as the dates tor the tournament. Decomber 26, 27 and 2!) were recommended for playing the Auckland handicap tournament. For the Auckland championships it was decided to apply for the dates January 26 to January 31, following the New Zealand junior championships. The suggested dates for the Easter hardcourt tournament were April 3 to April 6. It was resolved that the titles for senior events in which men participate in Auckland championship tournaments will not be in issue this season.

The need for a volley board at the Windmill Road courts was stressed by Mr. J. S. Broun, who said that this was particularly desirable for the couching of juniors, of whom over 50 are receiving tuition each Saturday morning. It was decided to refer the proposal to the junior committee for report. The following committees were appointed:—Handicap tournament, Messrs. J. A. Fernandez, A. Myers, C. Burgess C. Hill, ,T. S. Broun, A. B'raser, I. Kerr, A. C. Huckstep, T. Wright and ]R. Dixon; Auckland championships, Messrs. A. C. Johns. A. Fraser, J. A. McKain, J. Is. Wilson, C. Burgess, together with members of the executive committee. . . , ... Owing to difficulties connected with the war, it was decided not to hold ranking matches this season.
