TENNIS CLUB OPENINGS

Heme Bay.—The opening was held in ideal weather conditions, Mr. A. Bassett, viceraptain, welcomed visitors and new members. and other speakers were Mr. S. Cleal, president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, and Mr. Coakley, chairman of the Auckland City Council's parks committee. Trophies were' presented to last year's match winners, and Mr. Cleal presented the Fortune Cup, which was won by the club for tiie third consecutive year to the captain, Miss Ti. Adams. The courts were then declared open, the first ball being served by Mr. McCoskrie, an 87-year-old playing member of the club. WhanKarei— The opening day was held on Saturday, when a Yankee tournament was held, the winners being J. T. Shaw and Miss M. McDonald. Maunu. —The courts were opened on Saturday the winner of the opening day competition being Miss ,T. Miillineaux, with Ser-gcant-lMlot G. Symons runner-up. Paparoa.—The president, Mr. E. G. Aickin, who declared the club's courts open for the season, expressed pleasure at the presence of players from Ararua at the opening function. Trophies won last season were presented to winners by the president. Mrs. Aickin served the first ball.
